Stu & i left early & went down to westeard ho! even though strong winds were forcast it was meant to swing westerly early on.We sat in the car park watching the huge sets coming through with a cross slightly off wind(southerly), the waves were big, way over mast, every so often a really huge set would appear & breaking 2/3 times further out than the normal stuff, the white water must have been bigger than the average house!!! So we waited through many rain storms waiting for the westerly so at least then you could stay close to shore.
Watching people trying to help a guy who some how had drove his M3 convertable on to the beach & sunk up towards the estuary end was keeping us entertained. The wind was showing 50mph on someones meter.
The wind did swing towards Sw so i was gonna rig 3.8m & go for it,but after letting some more very heavy rainstorms go through the tide was now not far off the pebble sea wall,so after weighing it up. We drove back to Wsm.Stu floored it & we were back in 1hr15min to be greated with a 50-60mph wsw wind, could see Tim & Neil riggin.
On the water at last with 3.8m & not really being able to sheet in that well it was pretty mental. The waves were small waist height as it was only shallow. on the 5th run out a nose first powered up landing snapped the mast in 2 places below the boom,Stu to rsecue with a spare 4m mast.By the time i got back in the tide had pushed in & as the bay filled up the waves started to get bigger,by 4pm the middle of the bay had some large waves, it was only me & stu out now,we had some ace runs together, many times i couldnt see the top of his rig even though he was only on the other side of the wave,Gybing on them & dropping down the faces was ace although timing was essential & sheeting in on the new tack was sometimes windless due to the shadow from the wave, with some good jumps, many not intentional, some good backside off the lip jumps & being permantly fully powered with no twichiness on a 3.8mit was a top high wind sail.
The sun set whilst we sailed & we got off just before it got dark,,,,
ACE Sail ;)
